How important was religion to people of the Middle Ages

From the nine clues that we have, we somehow can tell that middle Ages are very loyal and faithful about their religion. In England, churches and monasteries filled almost every city in England, which is probably trying to increase the population of monks. In a city, they build the churches in the center of a city, which show the importance of religion.

The most important man in Christianity is Jesus. A lot of Christians wanted to visit him. Loads of people went on a trip called pilgrimage. However, the transportation at that time is mainly horse and feet, which makes the trip a lot harder then now. For this trip, people had to give up their health, money, land etc, just to get a closer look of Jesus.

In a monastery, monks are everywhere. Monks spend their entire life in the monastery just for their religion. Everyday, they woke up at one. And After they were awake, they started to read bibles, pray and do things which flavor the god. They also have to copy the bibles for certain reasons, which make all monks they most clever people in the country.

In a city, people had to give 1/10 of their year salary to the church. They thought that if they make the religion looks good, then they go to heaven after they died. Even thought it is just a belief. From all these clues above, I can tell that gods are controling their whole life. People are very dependent on religion. Religions are probably the most important thing in their life.
